About 'The Millennial Social Worker'

Daren McDaniel, LMSW, also known as "The Millennial Social Worker," is a School and Community-Based Therapist, Social Advocate, Community Changer, and the Owner/Operator of New Millennium Social Work. He has over a decade of experience working with individuals, families, and groups to help improve the quality of life through improved mental health and improved connection to community partners. Daren received his Master's Degree in Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan University and his Bachelor's Degree in Psychological Science from Ball State University. He is an associate-level licensed master social worker (LMSW) in the state of Indiana, and he currently specializes in community mental health for children and families. 

In his primary role as a School and Community-Based Therapist in a not-for-profit community mental health agency, Daren provides therapy services to school-age children grades K-5 in a primarily school-based setting. Additionally, Daren provides skills training to school-age children and their families in the home and community, as well as, training to teachers and staff within the school setting. In addition to providing mental health services, Daren also tutors elementary school students who are enrolled in an after-school education recovery program.

Upon beginning his role as a community mental health clinician, Daren noted the the barrier children and families had in becoming aware and connected to community resources. This inspired Daren to compile these resources into a directory, which is posted for free in the "Community Resources" section. In addition to connecting children and families to necessary resources, Daren has  also noted that the available tools available to school and community-based clinicians specifically was lacking. Daren began to create his own materials and shared these tools with co-workers and colleagues in the field who found these resources helpful in their work. Daren has included free tools and paid tools in the "Professional Tools" section. Finally, Daren has taken an interest in starting grassroots efforts within his community to bring connection to resources and education regarding mental health to the community on a larger scale. As such, Daren has started New Millennium Social Work to make his dream of a grassroots initiative a reality. Through New Millennium Social Work, Daren offers non-clinical consultation and other non-clinical services.
